A meeting-discussion was held under the leadership of Minister Hakob Simidyan regarding the legal status of Aarhus centers, possible re-operation and making their activities more targeted and continuous.
Let's remind that during the previous meetings, it was decided to form a working group, which will collect, analyze and present the opinions of the interested parties about the legal status of the centers in a short time.
Mari Chakryan, the legal adviser of the Ministry, the national coordinator of the Aarhus Convention, presented the studies carried out by the working group and the summary opinions in the form of a report.
The minister once again highlighted the obligations assumed by our country by ratifying the Aarhus Convention and the possibilities for the effective realization of the Aarhus Centers' activities and their potential in its context, especially emphasizing the need for institutionalization of the centers.
Aarhus centers are important for strengthening democratic values in the chain of government-society relations, providing proper public awareness and greater public involvement in the processes of developing environmental legislation.
Details about the works carried out by the working group will be presented to the interested parties in the near future.
