The events dedicated to the International Day for Biological Diversity have begun. 38,800 small fish of the summer subspecies of Sevan trout were released into Lake Sevan.
Today, the world comes together to celebrate the International Day for Biological Diversity, raising awareness about the critical importance of preserving biodiversity and encouraging actions to prevent nature loss and restore ecosystems.
Armenia has also joined this global movement by implementing a series of environmental initiatives. As part of the International Day for Biological Diversity, a significant step was taken today—under the initiative of the Ministry of Environment of the RA—toward the restoration of biodiversity in Lake Sevan.
In particular, 38,800 small fish of the summer subspecies of Sevan trout, bred at Karchaghbyur fish farm operated by “Sevani Ishkhan” CJSC, were released into Lake Sevan. This initiative is part of a planned effort to restore the trout population, which has been facing a risk of decline for many years.
The Sevan trout holds not only ecological, but also cultural and economic significance. This step serves as a reminder that conserving biodiversity is achievable only through continuous, systematic, and innovative efforts.
Armenia's nature is our national treasure, and its preservation is our collective duty – for the well-being of both present and future generations.
