On December 20 RA Deputy Minister of Nature Protection Kh. Hakobyan had a meeting with the expert team of “Supporting reforms in the sector of small hydro power plants (SHPPs) through enabling a dialogue between civil society and the Ministry of Nature Protection for sustainable use of river ecosystems. The meeting was attended by heads of relevant divisions of Water Resource Management Agency of the Ministry of Nature Protection of the Republic of Armenia, members of the project’s expert team. The report on the works of this phase provided by the project was considered. Project Coordinator of “Supporting reforms in the sector of small hydro power plants (SHPPs) through enabling a dialogue between civil society and the Ministry of Nature Protection for sustainable use of river ecosystems” Inga Zarafyan in her speech expressed gratitude to the UNDP-GEF Small Grants Programme (GEF SGP) and the Ministry of Nature Protection for assisting the experts. In the course of the meeting, the conclusions relating to the outcomes of visits conducted to 125 SHPPs during the two phases were conferred upon. The environmental issues flagged in SHPPs were presented, thus RA Deputy Minister of Nature Protection Khachik Hakobyan suggested to hold a consultation over developing methodology for SHPPs as well as reviewing quantity calculation of environmental flows in the rivers with the objective to address them.
