The final conference of the project “New ways of cooperation for biodiversity preservation in Caucasus. Cooperation among institutions and environmental NGOs in Armenia” implemented by the RA Ministry of Nature Protection and Nature and Biodiversity Conservation Union of Germany was held at “Erebuni Plazza” hotel. The project is financed by the Ministry of Environment, Nature Protection, Building and Nuclear Security of the Federal Republic of Germany by means of the project of “Environmental consultation for the countries of Central and Eastern Europe, Caucuses and Central Asia”. The chief executive officer of Nature and Biodiversity Conservation Union, Leif Miller in his welcoming speech emphasized their considerable achievements as the result of their diffused activity for already 14 years in Armenia. Introducing the objectives and results, Leif Miller noticed, that it is directed to the formation of cooperation between business environment and NGOs. The main goal of the project is to arrange drafts of events which are directed to the biodiversity preservation in Armenia. Yet, the speaker announced, that the financial contract for the environmental project will be signed with one of the RA leading banks the next day of the conference. First Deputy Minister of Nature Protection Minister, Simon Papyan welcoming the guests and participants of the conference on behalf of the RA Ministry of Nature Protection, signified joint efforts of state bodies, enterprises and NGOs for biodiversity preservation. The speaker stated that the Republic of Armenia and the Federal Republic of Germany closely cooperate in environmental field and appreciate the results of the implemented project. Reiner Morell, Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to Armenia, attached significance to sustainable ecosystems for economic growth and noticed that Armenia attributed importance to the involvement of enterprise sector in the process of biodiversity conservation in time. Professor Matias Froden, the president of Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Building and Nuclear Safety of Brandenburg, mentioned in his speech, that there are only 35 hot points / zones/ of biodiversity, a wide variety of species and ecosystems is specific to them. One of those points is situated in Caucuses and its centre in Armenia. Armenia has many more fauna and flora endemic species than many other European countries. Highlighting the results of the project, Dominik Sopart, the coordinator of the project of Nature and Biodiversity Conservation Union /NABU/ and Viatliy Kovalev, the head of the Caucuses project informed, that they managed to establish collaboration between 30 Armenian enterprises and NGOs within the scope of the project. The project is particularly essential for the attention focus on environmental issues by businessmen and grounds are formed for involving means which has an objective to solve these problems.
