The Ministry of Environment performs research and inventory activities of abandoned/ districts without owner of mining wastes. In 2018, field inspections were implemented in Lori, Aragatsotn, Kotayk, Ararat, Gegharkunik, Vayots Dzor and Syunik regions in the project scopes. There were studied 44 abandoned / areas without owner and 5 closed tailings; districts were identified, where works regarding assessment of the composition and volumes of wastes and environmental pollution monitoring-related activities are more urgent. Over the past two months, 139 samples of mining wastes and soil have been taken from the above mentioned districts; surface water sampling has been accomplished from 10 sites. Sampling sites have been linked to the Arm WGS geodesic coordinate system. The field phase of the works is to be completed on July 17. It will be analyzed the chemical composition of the samples under chamber conditions, thematic digital maps and brief reports will be developed; afterwards a comprehensive plan of actions to prevent and minimize environmental impacts will be elaborated.
