RA Minister of Nature Protection received the delegation of Standing Committee on Environment and Sustainable Development

RA Minister of Nature Protection Aramayis Grigoryan received the delegation of Standing Committee on Environment and Sustainable Development with Chairman Harold Albrecht, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the RA and the RF H.E. Mr. John Ronald Kur, Honorary Consul Artashes Emin and Canadian Embassy Representative Corinne Petrisor. Appreciating the friendly relations between Armenia and Canada and the latter’s significant impact upon the Armenian Genocide recognition; Aramayis Grigoryan thanked the delegation members for their support for the recognition of the Armenian Genocide and noted that: “We hope that with the support of Canada and other countries , powerful Armenian Diaspora and the efforts of Armenia, the day will come when modern Turkey has to face the history and their past, confess and recognize the crime committed by Ottoman Empire in 1915, which must be called the Genocide”. Standing Committee on Environment and Sustainable Development Chairman Harold Albrecht in his turn attached importance to the recognition and condemnation of crimes against humanity, in particular Armenian Genocide in 1915 stating: “Only through recognition and condemnation we can prevent repetition of similar crimes, which is impermissible. In 2006 Canadian legislative and executive authorities recognized Armenian Genocide. As the head of Armenian-Canadian interparliamentary group I would like to emphasize my great reverence for Armenian nation, Armenians residing in Canada, who are well known for high human and professional standards and are typical leaders in their spheres”. Referring to environmental sector Minister Grigoryan stated: “Although there is no collaboration experience in environmental sphere between the two parties, this meeting provides an opportunity for the discussion of partnership perspectives”. The parties reflected on preservation of water resources, specially protected areas of nature, biodiversity conservation, mining, problems of sustainable waste management and alternative energy (particularly through wind, solar energy and refining solid waste) and discussed the experience and possibilities for both countries. A decision has been made to develop ties between relevant departments of both countries and start close cooperation in the above mentioned fields.
