Ecotouristc guidebook

The rich biodiversity of the Specially Protected Nature Areas (SPNAs) of Armenia, various picturesque landscape types, existence of numerous historical monuments and natural heritage enable to organize different forms of tourism, combined tours and excursions.
Most preferred forms of tourism are ecotourism, ethno-tourism, agro-tourism, cultural and cognitive tourism, adventure tourism, sport-tourism, which can be accompanied by monitoring and watching of wild animals, different species of flora and fauna (wildlife watching, birdwatching) and can be combined with other forms of tourism.
Ecotourism is a form of tourism, involving visiting fragile, pristine, and relatively undisturbed natural areas, intended as a low-impact and often small scale alternative to standard commercial (mass) tourism. Its objective is to educate the traveler, to provide funds for ecological conservation, to directly benefit the economic development.
Ecotourism is defined as "responsible travel to natural areas that conserves the environment, sustains the well-being of the local people, and involves interpretation and education" (TIES, 2015).  Education is meant to be inclusive for both staff and guests.
Ministry of Nature Protection of Armenia adopted and created Ecotourism Information Center in the State Museum of the Nature of Armenia, in collaboration with international partner organizations, such as Transboundary Joint Secretariat (TJS), Caucasus Nature Fund  CNF and World Wildlife Fund (WWF).

Ecotourism Information Center enables visiting the fascinating and picturesque places of Specially Protected Nature Areas of the Republic of Armenia, where tourists will be able to enjoy the nature’s native beauty, familiarize with the local Flora and Fauna and watch of wild nature (wildlife watching, birdwatching), get hosted by the local villagers and get acquainted with their traditions and life style, enjoy the ecologically healthy food.
